Award for Excellence!

Congratulations to the Shalom Baranes Associates and their team, including Laura L. Knott, HLA, for receiving the 2021 District of Columbia Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. Led by the architects of Shalom Baranes, this team of architects; structural, civil, and MEP engineers; and landscape architects, developed plans to transform the pre-Civil War Gothic Revival-style Center Building into the home of the Secretary of Homeland Security and their staff. Work included historic preservation as well as new design to expand the building footprint. Laura Knott has been working on the project since 2014, providing historical landscape architectural services from design development through construction observation.
